Student is Excelling Both Inside and Outside the Classroom

Jul 28, 2014

Samantha Gilbert is proof-positive that drive and determination are two huge components of accomplishing one’s goals. With a life-long interest in health care, Samantha chose to enroll in the medical assisting program at the Lexington Campus.  “I’ve always worked in the medical field; I knew early on that this was going to be my career field,” she says.

Samantha had already earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) credentials prior to enrolling, which helped her decide what her next step would be.  “I chose medical assisting because it’s a natural extension of my previous training and will help with my future goals,” she explains.

In addition to her classroom duties, Samantha has recently been employed at Hometown Manor -- one of the newest and most progressive assisted-living facilities in the region.  “Our facility is brand new, and we had a vision for our staff,” says Hometown Manor owner Tracey Javid.  “Samantha certainly has the credentials to be a caregiver with us – but she brought so much more to the table. Her knowledge, personality, and demeanor made her an obvious and outstanding choice for us.”

Because Samantha is employed full-time, the flexible scheduling available at American National University is a great help to her.  Her reason for choosing National in furthering her career is simple:  “It was my only choice, actually.  The smaller classes and excellent instructors have helped me so much. I am considering earning my bachelor’s in health care management and eventually want to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  This is just one of many future goals for me.”
