American National University Health Care Programs Receive Industry Acknowledgement
Industry-specific certifications and accreditation improve students’ career opportunities
YOUNGSTOWN, OH — The students and faculty of the health care programs at American National University in Youngstown (www.national-college.edu/ 330-759-0205) have much to celebrate as two milestone achievements have recently been attained.
The surgical technology associate’s degree program has recently earned the distinction of “Excellence” from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for achieving a 100% pass rate. All students and graduates who took the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination during the 2012-2013 reporting year passed the test. The American National University Youngstown Campus was among five programs in Ohio certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) to receive the distinction of “Excellence.”
The campus’s health information management (HIM) program also achieved a milestone as it was awarded accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Students and graduates of the HIM program are now eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) examination through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). To become CAHIIM accredited, academic programs undergo a rigorous process of voluntary peer review and have met or exceeded the minimum accreditation standards as set by the CAHIIM. This is the first CAHIIM accredited program in the Youngstown area.
“The recent achievements of our health care programs reflect the hard work and dedication to success embodied by our students and faculty,” says Michael Boyle, director of the Youngstown Campus. “We constantly strive to ensure our students and graduates are the best of the best as they enter into their chosen career fields.”
The Youngstown Campus has served the Mahoning Valley of Northeastern Ohio since 2007 and offers a career-oriented education. Students may choose from eight associate degree programs or seven short-term diploma programs in business, computers, and health care.
