Accreditation confirms program’s academic merit
COLUMBUS, OH—Columbus-area residents interested in starting a new career that combines health care and technology may receive their training in the newly-accredited health information management associate degree program at the Columbus Campus of American National University (5665 Forest Hills Boulevard; 614-212-2800; www.national-college.edu). The program was recently awarded accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
“We are pleased that our students and graduates have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certification through this accreditation, further building on the high-level of understanding they will have achieved in the HIM program,” said campus director Wes Smith. “It helps further illustrate our commitment to higher education and that our students and graduates are ready for the future.”
Programmatic accreditation is an important part of the overall accreditation process and acknowledges the program’s compliance with nationally-established standards in the field of health information management. To become CAHIIM accredited, academic programs undergo a rigorous process of voluntary peer review and have met or exceeded the minimum accreditation standards as set by the CAHIIM.
The associate degree program in health information management provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patient data and make it available to health care providers, ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security along the way.
