Phlebotomy+ECG Program Offers Rapid Access to Medical Career

Phlebotomy+ECG Program Offers Rapid Access to Medical Career

Jan 12, 2016

A new phlebotomy/ECG diploma program was recently launched at many American National University Campuses offering students rapid access to entry-level careers as phlebotomists and ECG technicians, two key skills in demand in many health care facilities.

In the short-term program, designed to be completed in thirty weeks, students gain hands-on experience drawing blood, assessing patients’ heart rhythms, and recording electrocardiograms in the ANU lab.  They will also receive in-field experience during an externship in a local health care facility.

“This program is short in duration and it allows me to gain the proper knowledge that I will need to work out in the field and get my foot in the medical world.”

In addition, the program will prepare students to take the Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) and National ECG Technician (NCET) exams, valuable credentials as certifications become increasingly important to employers.

“This program is short in duration and it allows me to gain the proper knowledge that I will need to work out in the field and get my foot in the medical world,” said Chasity Robinson, a student in the phlebotomy/ECG program at the Pikeville Campus.

After earning her phlebotomy/ECG diploma, Chasity plans to continue her education in the nursing program at the Pikeville Campus. As part of the university’s progressive education format, the phlebotomy/ECG courses are also transferrable to ANU’s medical assisting associate’s degree and medical health services management bachelor’s degree programs.

“ANU always has the students in mind when designing or revamping programs of study,” said Diane Morey, Ph.D., vice president of academic affairs - health science education at ANU. “This enhanced phlebotomy and ECG technician program will certainly make graduates more marketable to health care recruiters.”
