National College offers a number of choices for students to become healthcare professionals in a variety of settings.

Medical Assistants are multi-skilled professionals who have a broad range of responsibilities in the ambulatory health-care setting. As a Medical Assistant, a graduate can expect to assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, working side-by-side in direct patient care. Some of the many clinical duties that a Medical Assistant may perform include administration of medication, preparation and assistance in patient examinations, phlebotomy, specimen collection and processing, and waived diagnostic laboratory testing. Administratively, Medical Assistants may have the responsibility of scheduling appointments, making referrals upon the provider’s request, billing and coding, filing and maintenance of patients’ medical records, accepting and posting patient payments, and applying managed-care policies.

Graduates of the Emergency Medical Technology - Paramedic program will be prepared to sit for national registry certification as a paramedic. As a paramedic, a graduate will provide basic and advanced emergency pre-hospital care and join the ranks of pre-hospital emergency care providers as a key component of the Emergency Medical Services system.

Graduates of the Emergency Medical Technology Diploma program will be prepared to sit for Virginia and national registry certification exams. Students who have no training or background in pre-hospital care will be prepared to sit for Virginia and National Registry certification as an EMT-Basic. Medical Transcriptionists typically work in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, transcription services, insurance companies, and home healthcare agencies. With experience, they may become independent contractors or subcontractors, particularly with certification.

Medical Billing and Coding offers career opportunities in physicians’ offices, outpatient facilities, and hospitals. Medical Billing and Coding specialists are the lifeline for a facility’s financial well-being and make a difference in the office reimbursement practice. Take a step up to the Health Information Technology program and become the expert on patient data on which doctors, nurses, and other providers rely on to perform their jobs.

Pharmacy Technicians work alongside Registered Pharmacists in retail pharmacies, extended care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and larger out-patient centers that have in-house pharmacies. Certification is fast becoming a key issue, and with the curriculum offered at National College, Pharmacy Technician graduates have a distinct advantage in becoming certified.
