Student Spotlight - Elizabeth Weber

Aug 08, 2018

Meet Elizabeth Weber, in her third term of the medical assisting associate’s degree program which will also prepare her for her certification in phlebotomy. In Elizabeth’s first two terms with the Harrisonburg Campus, she was able to achieve Dean’s List for both terms while caring for her three children. Congratulations Elizabeth! We are very proud of you!

Q: What made you pursue a career in Medical Assisting?
After working with my son Liam who has autism and all the medical staff that has assisted me along the way- I decided to pursue the medical field. My end goal would be to work at the Battle Building Children’s Hospital at The University of Virginia helping children like my son.

Q: What were some reasons you had put off furthering your education until now?
I had already gone through the Police Academy and had children.

Q: What was it about ANU-HBG that made you want to attend here?
Admissions representative, Amber Bolen, was very helpful in explaining the programs and my options but then the entire staff was so helpful with getting me through the enrollment process and made it very easy for me.

Q: What are the benefits of ANU’s Medical Assisting program for you?
I really enjoy the flexibility of the class schedules and different options of taking classes whether that is online or on campus. The friendliness of the instructors helps take off the pressure as well.

Q: What was your biggest fear? Why? And how did ANU help you overcome that fear?
My biggest fear was playing catch up to technology and not being able to understand it. Felix Baez was a huge help as well as the instructors who made the online classes easy to use.

I was also worried that as a 40 year old single mother of three that it was going to be hard to find the time which would not allow me to be successful in the program.

Q: What is your proudest moment so far?

Making the Dean’s List and having my children at the ceremony to witness my accomplishment.
