On Thursday, November 10, veterans of the Martinsville campus gathered for an observance of Veterans Day. W.C. Fowlkes of Martinsville (pictured), a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, as well as an Air Force veteran, attended the event as guest speaker. Colonel Fowlkes spoke about the origins of Veterans Day and stressed the importance of showing appreciation to those who have served in the military. He also shared some personal experiences from his service in the military, including the time he spent in Iraq as Senior Leader of an 11-man Military Transition Team. Their mission was to live with, serve with, and advise the Iraqi army in all areas of military structure. After his speech, Mr. Fowlkes spent time listening to and sharing stories with veteran students while they enjoyed cake and refreshments. More information about W.C.
