A Boxing Champ’s Dream

Youngstown student Robert Hill (left) is a former boxing champion and held the title of Ohio Junior Middleweight Champion, rated third in the world at that time. Now he has traded in his boxing gloves for textbooks and pencils and is in his second term studying for a business administration-management degree. He is planning to use what he learns in his courses to start his own boxing ministry business.
Following in his father's footsteps, who coached boxers for 50 years, Robert wants to work with youth, ages 9 to 18. He wants to teach respect and channel the high level of energy in these young people into something positive. Robert also wants to help get kids in better physical shape as boxing is very good for the cardiovascular system and coordination. He said, "[Television] and the Xbox are raising kids today. Being physically fit and eating right helps you make better decisions and helps your outlook on life in general."
Robert gave up boxing 10 years ago when he sustained an eye injury. He is an Army veteran, having served in Germany and Honduras as a battalion engineer. The discipline that boxing taught him was very helpful in his military career and that same discipline is very useful in completing class assignments and studying. A friend recommended National to Robert. He really likes the small class sizes and the family atmosphere.
Pictured with Robert is Instructor Tom Seifert (right) who said that he knew Robert was special when he learned that he wanted to start a non-profit business that involves training young people to box so that they will have an alternative to hanging out on the streets. "[Goals] like this make it readily apparent that Robert's compassion for others is truly exemplary!"
