Entrepreneurial Discussion

Keyonna Jennings (left) is a full-time student at the Youngstown Campus and is working part-time as an extern for Derek Caffe (right), owner of a drop-off catering and restaurant delivery service called "U Gotta Eat." Keyonna invited Derek to speak at a Capital Club meeting where he met Instructor John Chovan (center). Impressed with his presentation, John asked Derek to come to his Managing the Small Business class as a guest speaker.
Derek is a young entrepreneur who started a unique business by negotiating with area restaurants for meal discounts and offers a food delivery service to homes and offices. He plans to one day expand his delivery service to larger cities and become a Fortune 500 company. As a guest speaker, he talked about his startup experiences using SCORE, a source of free and confidential advice for entrepreneurs, and the small business development center in Youngstown. He advises students who want to start their own businesses to talk to other successful small business owners and recruit a mentor.
Keyonna will finish her associate degree on May 22nd. She will graduate with a major in business administration-accounting and a minor in business administration-management. She enjoys working at "U Gotta Eat" and said she has already gained valuable business experience. She eagerly recommends externships for business students as "a very good opportunity." Keyonna is an excellent student - she has been on the Dean's List many times, she is active in the Student Activities Council, and is a member of the honor society, Alpha Beta Kappa. She plans on returning to National for another degree in the future.
