Seeking Opportunities
Vickie Windt, a student at the Youngstown Campus, is an exemplary model for the career minded student looking for opportunity in today's job market. Vickie holds a diploma from the administrative office specialist program, and she is currently working on her associate degree from the administrative office professional program.
In today's career field, many businesses allow the option for employees to work from home on their computers. Vickie plans to use the training she receives at National College to take advantage of such an opportunity. Although she has knee problems and can't work standing for an extended period of time, Vickie is persistent in her desire to contribute her valuable administrative office skills to the work force.
Vickie discovered National while traveling by bus. She contacted the College and immediately went in for an interview. She was determined to make the most of the opportunity presented to her by the College. "I wanted to be the first person from my family to graduate from college," she said. She has accomplished her goal and is looking forward to graduating again with her associate degree.
Vickie says the faculty and staff members at National have been wonderful supporters; they provide instruction based on the educational needs of each student. The small class sizes and closely integrated environment at National have been great assets to Vickie's experience: "I've learned to interact with the people here and make new friends, especially with the staff members."
With her education well underway, Vickie now looks forward to contributing her abilities in the job market. Prior to her education, Vickie had a number of jobs that she didn't like. Instead of giving up, Vickie took the opportunity to better herself with a valuable education. "I'm not a quitter," she stated determinedly. She will soon have a degree that attests to her learned abilities and has a wider range of career opportunities as an administrative assistant. As Vickie has shown, an individual's willingness is fundamental to success.
