Lifelong Serviceman

Mark Rauschenberg, a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, served eight and a half years active duty for the Air National Guard. He is now in his ninth year in the reserves and plans to continue serving until "they kick me out." Mark's grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and his father served as a captain in the Army. Mark enlisted right after he graduated from high school because he wasn't ready for college at that time and he wanted to do a lot of traveling.
Some of Mark's more recent experiences as a serviceman include airfield repair work; crowd control assistance during President Obama's inauguration; and learning new methods for dealing with bombs in London after the subway bombing.
Soon after losing his last full-time civilian job installing fireplaces and insulation, he met Gina Augustine (pictured with Mark on the left), Health Information Technology (HIT) Director for the Youngstown Campus, and she encouraged him to consider National College. He is now in his fourth term of the HIT program and takes his studies very seriously. He has a 4.0 grade point average with perfect attendance and is a wonderful role model for his two young children. After graduation he would like to work in a hospital and continue his education. Eventually, he wants a career in a cancer research facility and says that he really values the faculty at National College. Gina said that Mark is a real asset to the classroom and she appreciates his attitude of eager learning and striving to do his best.
