Grand Opening Celebration

On a gorgeous spring day in Liberty Township, National College’s Youngstown Campus celebrated its Grand Opening with a ceremony and open house on Thursday, May 15. Over 100 people turned out to help the campus celebrate in style.
After presentation of the colors by a U.S. Army color guard, Ohio/Indiana Regional Director of Operations Greg Shields welcomed the assembled guests on behalf of National College. Greg expressed the College’s gratitude for the way the community has quickly embraced the campus, and pledged to continue to work with the local community in fulfillment of our educational mission. Fittingly, Greg invited Youngstown Campus Community Resource Coordinator Michael Lyons to the podium to present contributions from the college’s
Community Relations Fund to two organizations the campus has partnered with. Big Reach Ministries has worked closely with the campus to identify people from the community who could better their lives through education, while the Sutliff Museum has assisted the campus with special educational programs in honor of Black History Month.
Greg also accepted, on behalf of the Youngstown Campus, the Spring 2008 Liberty Beautification and Safety Award from the Liberty Business Association and Liberty Township Police Department. This biannual award was presented to the campus for the positive impact it has had on the local community since it opened for classes in September of 2007.
Guest speaker Jay Williams, mayor of Youngstown, provided the keynote address. Mayor Williams spoke of the positive impact National College will have throughout the region, and commented on the spirit of cooperation among the various local governments of the Mahoning Valley. He also stressed the importance of a well-educated workforce trained in the high-tech, growth-oriented fields offered by the Youngstown Campus.
Several local media outlets were present for the ceremony, which concluded with a ribbon-cutting by Mayor Williams. Afterward, guests were treated to tours of the campus and a delicious array of hors d'oeuvres. Many guests lingered for some time after the ceremony concluded, so impressed were they by the campus’ facilities and staff.
Special thanks to all the students, faculty, and staff of the Youngstown Campus as well as the National College Campus Support staff who worked so hard to make the event a great success!
