Touring the Nation’s Capital

On Tuesday, October 20th, 42 people from the Roanoke Valley Campus, boarded a bus for a field trip to Washington, DC. Dorothy Herndon, Tourism and Hospitality department chair, spearheaded the annual event. Students were split up into groups and chaperoned by Dorothy, Cathy Fortune, Karen Jackson, and Phil Travis. They toured many points of interest in our Nation's capital including the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and American History Museum, the U.S. Capitol, and the Vietnam Wall Memorial. Those who participated in Mr. Travis' walking tour also shared close-ups of the Lincoln and Washington Monuments. While no one was privy to seeing the President, they did see the Commander-in-Chief's helicopter overhead later in the afternoon. The trip was a prime opportunity for students to mingle with faculty and staff as each one experienced history coming to life. What a joy it was to let freedom ring together as we represented National College at our nation's capital.
