National Student Pursues Her Dreams with Confidence

I want to show my children that if mommy can do it, they can too," says student Holly Fitch who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the health care management program.
Holly graduated from the Roanoke Valley Campus with a medical assisting degree in February and recently passed the certified medical assistant exam. She enrolled in the bachelor's program before she even graduated because she enjoyed her National experience.
Prior to attending National, Holly worked in the food service industry as a server and bartender. After she gave birth to her youngest son three years ago, she decided to she wanted more for herself and her children. "I didn't want to work for $8 an hour for the rest of my life...I figured that an education was the best thing I could do."
A single mother of two young boys, ages three and four, it is important to Holly that she set an example for their future. "My education is for my children. I want to give them a nice life." In addition to raising her children and going to school, she currently works two jobs, one as a federal work-study student for the College.
Holly has worked hard to maintain a high grade point average. In fact, she has excelled in her studies so much so that she has received many scholarships for academic performance including the Joseph E. Hurn and Baccalaureate Studies Scholarships, both of which are funded by National College. She also received a scholarship from the Kitas and Lutsko Family Foundation two years in a row.
While new to the bachelor's program, she said she has already learned a lot from the medical assisting degree including valuable administrative skills: "With the variety of subjects that I've been taught, it is a wonderful thing that I can go out there and I can communicate with anybody on any level and I have something substantial to say that came from my education at National College."
Her National education has also given her the confidence she needs to pursue her dreams of being a professional, a dream she will soon accomplish with her bachelor's degree.
