Health Care Career Fair

On Tuesday, August 5th, the Roanoke Valley Campus sponsored a Health Care Career Fair. Organized and directed by Career Center Director Cathy Fortune, the fair was held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Twelve different employers arrived on campus to participate in the fair, including Friendship Manor and Prison Health Services, two companies that had never visited the campus. More than 300 students and recent graduates attended the fair to gather information and speak to employer representatives. In addition to National students and graduates, the general public was invited to attend, and several people from outside the National community did show up.
The employer representatives who participated indicated to Cathy that they did pick up some excellent resumes and had productive conversations with candidates who appeared to be good matches for the positions they had available. Cathy noted that what she found very impressive was the fact that Roanoke Fire and EMS spokesperson Tiffany Bradbury made time in her schedule to recruit National students while in the midst of handling two different, serious fires that had occurred in Roanoke, a fire that morning at a McDonald’s in Roanoke and an arson fire from the previous night at a furniture store.
