New Experience New Career

Rakisha Spencer was looking for a career change when she came to National College in Martinsville. She had a degree from another nearby college but she was having a hard time finding a job. She enrolled in the medical assisting program in December 2006.
In less than two years, Rakisha earned her associate degree. As part of the requirements to earn her degree, Rakisha did an externship with Fatade Health and Medical Center, a small family practice that sees as many as 30 patients a day.
I got a good education and got a job!
She fit in at the practice so nicely that they offered her a job before she even graduated. Rakisha is a “people person” and enjoys the patients most about her new job and new career.
Rakisha enjoyed her National experience and is particularly grateful for Director of Health Care Education Gary Jenkins. “I love Mr. Jenkins,” she said as she explained how he took the time to make sure students understood what he was teaching.
While she is pleased with her new career, she plans to further her education with the goal of being a registered nurse.
Rakisha said she is glad she went to National to change her career. “I got a good education and got a job!”
