Honoring Veterans
On Wednesday, November 12th, the Martinsville Campus held a ceremony to honor veteran students and faculty at the campus. Staff Sergeant David Vazquez, from the US Army Recruiting Station in Martinsville, visited the campus to speak with the honorees. Sgt. Vazquez, a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, gave a moving speech on the meaning of Veterans Day, his appreciation of the service his audience gave to their country, and the pride he takes in sharing a bond with others who have served their country just as he did. After Sgt. Vazquez’s speech the participants enjoyed sandwiches, drinks, cake, and conversation about their experiences while serving their country. The veterans received a notebook-portfolio as a token of National College’s appreciation of their service.
