Our Pharmacy Technician degree program is designed to provide you with knowledge, laboratory skills, and field experience so that you can assist pharmacists in providing medication and other healthcare products to patients. Students will gain an understanding of medical and pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology, pharmacy record keeping, pharmaceutical techniques, and pharmacy law and ethics. In addition, a 120 hour externship placement is required so students receive hands-on experience in a pharmacy practice site.

Carlos Black is presently a Regulatory Analyst and has a background in public utility regulation as both an Investigator and Analyst. He also has more than 15 years of teaching experience at the career and technical college level. Carlos received his bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis and his master's degree in business education from Middle Tennessee State University. Carlos is past-president of both the Tennessee Business Education Association and the Gamma Eta chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, a national graduate honor society for professionals in business education. He teaches keyboarding, business, and medical assisting courses at the National College of Business & Technology Nashville and Madison Campuses.

Katherine Blann has taught internationally and stateside for over 15 years. She received her Master of Education degree from Framingham State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and English, and elementary education with a minor in Spanish. She passed the national praxis exams for reading, writing, math, and Praxis II for teaching English and literature. She also passed the praxis in Educational Leadership Administration and Supervision. Katherine is College Board Advanced Placement (AP) audited in Literature and Language, International Baccalaureate (IB) Language and Literature, and holds a Counseling Certificate. She is an instructor at the National College of Business & Technology Madison Campus, where she also serves as the general education department chair.

Shalanda Buchanan - Instructor

Shalanda Buchanan has worked as a pharmacy technician for more than 10 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and is a Certified Pharmacy Techinician (CPhT). She teaches Dosages and Calculations, Pharmacology, and Pharmacy Practice courses at the Nashville and Madison Campuses.

Evelyn Dallas received her Bachelor of Science degree from David Lipscomb College. She taught in New Jersey, Virginia, and Tennessee in the areas of secretarial science and English. Evelyn is now an instructor of English and administrative office-related courses at the Nashville and Madison Campuses and serves as the general education department chair at the Nashville Campus.

Sheree Graham has been an instructor of health care and business courses at the Madison Campus since 2010 and currently serves as the campus's director of health care education. Prior to joining the National College faculty, she worked in clinical healthcare for the Hospital Corporation of America. Sheree's educational background includes an associate degree in Medical Assisting from Draughons Junior College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences from Tennessee State University, and a Master of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Healthcare Administration from Ashford University.

Prior to NCBT, he taught for 10 years in the Tennessee Public School System and was a Varsity High School football coach for three schools in Tennessee. David has also taught business & economics courses for schools in Kentucky and Michigan, while also coaching football & basketball. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics.

Angela McDonald has been an instructor with National College of Business & Technology since 2007, where she teaches Medical Assisting, Health Information Technology, and General Education courses. She also leads a coding clinic each term for students who need extra coding help. Under the supervision of the Director of Health Care Education, Angela is the lead instructor over the Medical Office Assistant and the Medical Office Specialist programs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and library science and an Associate of Science degree in health information technology and medical assisting. She is currently an instructor at both the Madison and Nashville Campuses.

Theresa A. Miller is an instructor at the Nashville and Madison Campuses. She has professional experience in the areas of business, healthcare, financial operations, educational programming, instructional curriculum design, and administration. She has been in the educational and healthcare arena for 27 years, primarily in the area if medical billing and coding. Theresa began her career as a Certified Medical Assistant and went further to obtain a bachelors degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. She also earned several certificates in the training and development arena and completed a Master of Arts degree in training and development.

Jerry Officer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Freed-Hardeman University, a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management from University of Phoenix, and holds licenses/certifications from the State of Tennessee Department of Education; State of Tennessee Department of Health/Pharmacy Board; and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. He is a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician and is currently employed with Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Nashville, TN. Jerry is an instructor in the pharmacy technician program at the National College of Business & Technology program at the Madison Campus.

Bonita Payne has worked in a variety of settings within the health care industry for over 10 years. Her experience comes from various positions within the Health Information Management (HIM) industry, including document imaging (EHR), billing, and medical office management for solo and group practitioners. Bonita received her Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University and her Associate of Applied Science degree from Nashville State Community College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator. Bonita is an instructor at the Madison Campus, where she also serves as Director of Health Information Management.

Tracy Ross has spent over 15 years in financial and operations management for small businesses in the Middle Tennessee area. Her diverse experience and education have provided her with a thorough knowledge of all details pertaining to a company's financial operations and business management. Tracy is a graduate of Tennessee State University with both a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting, and a master of Business Administration degree with a focus in management and small business Development. She is an instructor of accounting courses at the Madison and Nashville Campuses and serves as the accounting department chair at the Madison Campus.

Melissa Spoonamore is a communications specialist with a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communication and minors in English and education from Middle Tennessee State University. Her areas of expertise include: journalism, public relations, media relations, writing and editing, internal and external corporate communications, social media, e-mail marketing, reporting and interviewing, brand management and teaching. Melissa works in the field of corporate communications management and is an instructor of preparatory English and written communication courses at the National College of Business and Technology Madison Campus.

Joe Wheeler - Instructor

Joe Wheeler holds a bachelor's degree in business administration- marketing from Tennessee Technological University, a Master of Public Administration degree in health care administration from Western Michigan University, and is a Certified Medical Practice Executive through the Medical Group Management Association. Joe's forty years of experience includes management of multi and single specialty medical practices in California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee. He has also served as a private consultant to physicians and hospitals. Joe has direct experience in the development of alternative health delivery systems such as surgical centers, birthing centers, pathology laboratories, rural primary care centers, management service organizations, and home health agencies. A former hospital administrator, he has held positions in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors, most recently with the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System. Having served on the Kentucky Board for Rural Health Care and as a member of the Medical Group Management Association, Association of Physician Recruiters, and American Society of Management Consulting, Joe's special interests include practice marketing, physician recruitment, consulting, practice financial management, and development of new sources of revenue. As a National College of Business & Technology instructor, Joe brings a combination of real world health care management experience, five years of career training, and eight years of corporate seminar experience.
