Fantasy Weddings Comes True

About four months ago at a Fantasy Book Club meeting, Amanda Wintz, a Radio and Television Broadcasting student at the Lexington campus, suggested that club members should begin reading the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer because the fourth and final book would be released in August. After Amanda’s enthusiastic summary of the books, everyone agreed to start reading the series.
The group then decided to celebrate the final book release with a wedding reception theme for main characters Bella and Edward. The club sent out casting calls to drum up support for the “wedding reception.” They then held auditions for most of the main characters in the books and practice began. Amanda, along with fellow student Justin Witt, created scripts from the first three books and then wrote a scene foretelling what they thought might happen at the wedding - Jacob interrupting. They were so on target. Pictured are the two main characters of the Twilight Series, Justin Witt, National College student playing the part of Edward Cullen, and Kayla Perkins, playing Bella Swan.
The event was held on Friday, August 1st and turned into a fundraiser for the Lexington Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning. The party started at 8:00 but continued through the night with an all night read-a-thon. Several participants came dressed in proper reception attire include several girls in wedding gowns. To raise money, participants at the reception could pay a dollar to dance with “Edward” and the rest of the cast.
Media friends, the Lexington Herald Leader, Winchester Sun, and WKYT Channel 27 supported the event prior to and during the event. The club also got the word out through MySpace, Face Book, the Fayette Mall, and Meetup.com. It was a huge success with almost 150 people in attendance.
