Knoxville Alumna Administers Flu Vaccines

Graduate Donna Roach recently returned to the Knoxville campus as an employee of Mobile Diagnostics, an occupational health organization that offers many health-related tests and screenings for businesses on location.
On October 12th, the campus hired Mobile Diagnostics to administer flu shots to staff and instructors at the campus and Donna was assigned to the task.
Donna graduated from the medical assisting associate degree program earlier this year. She completed an externship with Mobile Diagnostics and - like many National students - she was offered a job as a result. Since graduation, she passed the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and is now certified in her field.
In her position, Donna said she has been giving about 200-300 shots a day for her employer since the start of the flu season. This is in addition to her other responsibilities at the Mobile Diagnostics office including drug screens, physicals, breath alcohol testing (EBT), urinalysis tests, and EKGs.
Donna said that with help from Mobile Diagnostics, she will likely go back to school to obtain a nursing degree. She said, "I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to get my [medical assisting] degree from National College...I am happy in my job and without the experience and the knowledge that I gained [at National], I would not be doing what I'm doing."
Donna's English instructor, Nicki Caldwell, pictured on the right, was one of many at the campus to get a flu shot and she noted a positive experience from her former student: "I didn't even feel the needle."
