Scholarship Winner

Executive Women International (EWI) awards at least one $1,500 ASIST (Adult Students in Scholastic Transition) scholarship every year to an eligible student at the Knoxville Campus. This year's ASIST award winner was medical assisting student Charlena Jones who took the time to fill out the application and be interviewed by the scholarship committee. Charlena explained that becoming a registered medical assistant (RMA) is a goal that will help her to achieve her dream of working as part of an oncology group that makes a definite impact on people who need them. Upon graduation from the medical assisting degree program, she will be able to take the RMA exam.
EWI presented Charlena with her scholarship at the Cherokee Country Club where Dr. Wheeler, a local author and historian, gave a presentation. Charlena said, "I am most grateful for receiving this award because it will make my continuing in school that much easier for me."
Charlena is an active member in the Campus Civitan Club as its president. She was instrumental in getting several projects going for the group. Her role with the Civitan, along with her active participation with Habitat for Humanity, were some of the reasons she was chosen as the recipient of this scholarship. Dr. Wheeler and all the other EWI representatives were very impressed with Charlena's passion and determination to achieve her goal.
