Operation Donation

Staying competitive in today’s fast-moving medical field is but one reason students choose to pursue education at National College. One example of how we are meeting this challenge is in the strengthening of ties to the medical community, such as through the re-established partnership with Indiana Orthopedic Hospital of Indianapolis. This relationship has benefited our students not only as an externship site but also through a donation of an Andrews Operating table for the surgical technology program. This pricy, specialized piece of equipment is used in back surgeries and will provide students with the ability to simulate real-world surgical environments. Surgical Technology Director Heidi King believes this is a wonderful educational opportunity for students to learn how to position and drape patients.
The donated Andrews table is pictured above with the campus’s dummy “Carl” in the modified Kraske position which is the standard position during a spine surgery. Most students will only hear these words, and never be able to visualize it in school. Thanks to the generous donation of Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital, Indianapolis students will not only see it, but they will be able to position patients, drape them in a sterile manner, and simulate spinal surgery.
