Black History Month Kickoff

To officially kick off February as Black History Month, students, faculty, and staff at the Florence Campus recently took a field trip to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Participants learned more about the historical and contemporary issues pertaining to slavery and the fight for freedom. They were educated about the origins of slavery in the US and about the current challenges to social justice and equality. One of the most powerful exhibits was an actual slave pen that was found on a farm in Kentucky. It was rebuilt at the Freedom Center so that visitors can see the interior of the pen where slaves were temporarily housed before they were sold.
