Gaining a Competitive Edge

At the Dayton Campus, Business Management - Accounting students took part in a day-long seminar on January 23rd going over résumé writing, interviewing skills, and continuing education options. Bob Abadie, Business Department Chair, and Sue Wallace, Career Center Director, put together the event to help management and accounting students “to achieve that better job,” explained Mr. Abadie. He added, “With the economy being so slow right now, we wanted to give our students a competitive edge in searching for a job.”
Activities included practicing interview techniques which covered the questions usually asked during an interview. Participants were also told what to bring to the interview and what questions to ask of a prospective employer. The seminar also covered four types of résumés and how to present limited experience with strong education and an externship in an impressive résumé. Many students walked away saying they had more confidence and were more prepared to look for employment.
