This Week's a 'HIT'!

This week the Dayton campus celebrated National Health Information Technology Week. Many activities were planned by the Director of the Health Information Technology (HIT) program, Jennifer Schneider, and staff.
“I love it…I absolutely love it”
The HIT program has been very successful and the future demand for billing and coding is huge. Some students have piggy-backed their HIT associate degree with either the Pharmacy diploma or Medical Assisting degree. The combination is powerful job wise. Insurance companies, hospitals, medical groups, and doctor’s offices look at these students first because they understand the medical discipline beyond just doing the coding.
Recent HIT graduate Shannon Hammer can attest to the value of her degree. “My main concern was when I go through all this, I hope I can find a job, and I have…it’s nice.” Shannon started working at her externship site the Monday after she completed her degree. “I know 30 years from now I’ll still have a job.” When we spoke to her about her new job, Shannon replied, “I love it…I absolutely love it…all the women I work with have been very helpful.”
One of the activities planned was a chili cook-off. Students in the Health Information Technology program brought in their culinary delights and the campus sampled and voted. Who was ‘HOT’ with their ‘HIT’ chili? Students Vicki Warner and Theresa Kidd shared their winning recipes.
