Pinning Ceremony

The Dayton Area Campus celebrated Fall Term graduates of the Pharmacy Technician program with a pinning ceremony which included an open breakfast for all. Guest speaker Rob Mullins, RPh, District Pharmacy Supervisor for Southwest Ohio Rite Aid Pharmacies, talked about the future of the pharmacy industry and the increased role technicians will play. He emphasized that pharmacy is quickly becoming more complex, and as different areas of service arise, the duties of the technician are becoming more specialized. Besides retail and hospital pharmacies, there is now an increase in demand for mail-order drug supplies and specialized assisted living care drug needs. Each of these areas require unique duties and drug knowledge. Mr. Mullins pointed out that legislation will inevitably require technicians to be certified by their individual states as well as nationally. He contends that the career growth potential as a pharmacy tech is huge for the next decade. To date, the Dayton Campus has 22 graduates who have passed the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification exam and have the CPhT credentials.
