Ahead of the Program
Michael Williams is scheduled to graduate from the Charlottesville Campus in November of 2010, but his education is already paying off. A student in the information systems engineering program, Michael uses the technical skills learned from National College to make his presence felt in the fast-growing IT industry.
He currently works as a pest management professional, a job he has been working since before the start of his education. Additionally, Michael is looking to work in an externship with his company's growing IT department, and is busily engaged with technical work outside of his full-time employment. Following his education, he plans to manage his own business in the IT field.
Michael enjoys the flexibility of his education at National College; it has allowed him to maintain his busy professional life, while also devoting his time and abilities to the service of his community. Independently, Michael performs repair services on computers; his abilities bring new life to old broken machines that just previously gathered dust in attics and basements. He also gives service to his community as a web administrator for his church's website, crediting his Visual Basing class for the skills that allow him to format the site in various ways.
In addition to the flexibility of his classes, Michael credits the sincerity of his teachers for their instructional methods. He states, "the industry is so big, you can't do it all...National gives you a taste of the different areas of the IT industry you can go into." Although he enjoys all of his IT classes, he has gained much from other classes as well. "Not just in the IT department...My English class which was never one of my best subjects...the teachers actually present it in a way that makes it interesting and easy to learn...They are very skillful at doing that."
In the midst of completing his education, Michael has already established a well-mapped route to career success. He is using his skills to open himself up to new opportunities, completing his education, getting a job, and giving to his community. On the fast track to the booming world of the IT field, Michael is a well-rounded success.
