Hands-On Venipuncture

Medical assisting students in Director of Health Care Education Sheri Jessee’s Invasive Clinical Procedures classes at the Bristol Campus are practicing venipuncture or collecting blood from a vein. The student first watches Sheri as she performs the procedure, then under supervision the students practice while ensuring proper safety and procedure of the specimen collection. They practice on a phlebotomy simulated arm to learn how the needle feels when penetrating skin and entering the vein. When the student feels comfortable, they then begin venipuncture on a person.
