Preparing for the Workforce

On Wednesday, July 16, Dress for Success Memphis was invited to the Bartlett Campus to present a seminar for the students on how to dress for interviews and what the process entails. Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1998. Its mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. Although Dress for Success is an organization for women, speaker Tiffany Smith was still able to provide helpful information to male students attending the event.
Ms. Smith gave a presentation on how to prepare for an interview, what to do during, and what to do afterwards. Pharmacy Technician student Stacey Hutcheson said that the seminar was very informative and educational. She went on to say that the speaker was “very in-tune to the college and the college student.” Much emphasis was also put on the fact that not only should a person be prepared in the physical state, but also mental. A candidate must have a clear and positive mind before entering the interview because this shines through to the employer which may follow with successful results. Career Center Director Tia Morris was very pleased with the outcome of the visit from Dress for Success and their help to the students as they prepare to enter the workforce.
