Qualifications

Graduation from high school is a minimum requirement for admission to National College for those students enrolling in the Diploma, Associate of Science, or Bachelor programs. Those who have satisfied graduation requirements through the General Education Development (GED) Test are also elligible for admission.

In addition, as the College reviews applications for admission to the Bachelor degree programs, it will strive to select students who have the necessary maturity, motivation and academic preparation to successfully complete the requirements for the baccalaureate degree.

The following criteria will be used by the College to determine those essential qualities:

  1. The applicant must have completed an associate degree.
  2. The applicant must have earned at least a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all previous collegiate course work. If the applicant's GPA falls below 2.5, the applicant will be evaluated for conditional acceptance.
  3. The applicant does not posses an associate degree, but has substantial collegiate experience and transferable credits, will be evaluated for conditional acceptance.

Medical Admissions Requirements 

Students enrolling in the Medical Assisting Program or Surgical Technology Program after June 6, 2005 will affirm in writing that the student has no known physical or personal limitations that will prevent the student from successfully completing the program, can lift at least 50 pounds, have reasonable vision and hearing and have no communicable diseases known to the student.

Emergency Medical Technology - Paramedic Admissions Requirements

At the time of application the student must sign the Prerequisites for EMS Training Programs, Criminal History and Standards of Conduct form developed by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. In addition, students who enroll in the EMT-Paramedic program will be required to have an EMT-Basic certification; take a PPD test during their first term of attendance and another PPD test upon expiration of the first test (one year). Before completion of ALS120, students must pass both a criminal background check and a comprehensive drug screen, and also must provide documentation of Hepatitits B vaccination, MMR and/or other immunizations as required by clinical and field externship sites. Each student will also be made aware that they will have to meet the minimum qualifications, expectations, competencies and tasks expected of an Advanced Life Support Provider within Virginia as outlined in the Virginia Office of EMS Functional Position Description for the Advanced Life Support Provider.
