Brains, Not Brawn
William Rom was one of the first students to enroll at the Cincinnati Campus when it opened in 2004–in fact, the campus had not even moved into their newly-constructed building when he enrolled. It was a leap of faith that paid off, however. “I wondered, ‘what kind of place is this going to be,’” he says. “It turned out to be a great building, great classes, great people.”
“It’s been…two years since I’ve been out of school, I’ve got a great job here and couldn’t ask for anything more.”
William was looking for something with a better long term future. “I pretty much got tired of doing factory work …breaking my back for too long,” he explains. “It was just getting old…I wanted to use my brain a little more than my brawn.”
Originally interested in accounting, he soon learned of the campus’s program in Information Systems Engineering, and decided that was his niche. “It just turned into something I was real passionate about, I really cared about,” he says.
As a help desk support specialist for the Cincinnati Eye Institute, William supports the doctors and staff at one of the world’s foremost ophthalmologic practices. The high-tech center has 55 to 60 doctors, including world renowned specialists in eye care. With more than 400 users on the network he helps maintain, he puts his degree to work every day. “It’s been…two years since I’ve been out of school, I’ve got a great job here and couldn’t ask for anything more.”
