The Fast Track
Knoxville Campus Computer Applications Technology graduate Angela Hagler is on the fast track in the banking industry. A May 2006 graduate, she began working the Monday after graduation as a part-time teller at Regions Financial a short distance away from the campus. She landed the job at an open house she learned of through the Campus's career center. By September, she had been promoted as a full-time teller with greater responsibilities, and in January 2007 was promoted again to her current position of Financial Services Representative.
Angela has found that her degree is a good fit for the banking industry. "[C]omputer skills...are a must, because we do everything on the computer," she says. "You can create your own 'paper trail,' but it doesn't count unless it's in the computer." Angela also credits National for the business skills she learned in her business management course. Skills including professional dress and bearing, how to interact with public, problem-solving, all are valuable in the workforce. "I feel that everybody who's in a management position, or even customer service position, should have [to take] that class," she said of her Business Management course. "They teach you so much."
The mother of two also said her education had a tremendous impact on her son, 10, and daughter, 6. "My son thought it was so cool because we would do homework together," she says. At the time, her daughter was in kindergarten and didn't have homework but she really wanted to study alongside her mother and brother. "That actually helped her, she's doing great in school," says Angela proudly.
